I told Katie to come in and test out too just to make sure.
As I'm gonna grab some water, I'd need a good morning woo. Nicely simple today.
Oh from Jennifer, did you get my email about the pole?
Cool, so I thought it be helpful if I gave everything to you ahead of time.
Yeah, and I look finger slide so I saw when it is in there so I'll be able to just type it in quickly, so that's good.
Cool perfect alright sounds good I'm gonna grab some water I'll be right back.
Yeah, thank goodness. Oh my gosh.
I know I I cut it after yesterday. Holy cow.
On so many levels that was so unreal I can't.
It was definitely a day of no thank you Internet.
Oh my God, I like, I told Chris last night I didn't even finish like the project I needed to today was just.
Yeah it was. Yeah, that was ugly.
You guys have a tough day at some point. Here is not like.
Yesterday, slate was not our friends and we did a webinar with Electrical Engineering an it was like straight up disaster.
Maybe I don't want to hear about that.
Yeah, no, I think honestly, I think it's because two of 'em like slate specifically says like don't use Safari, it's not like the browser or the platform doesn't support it. And two of them were like we're going to use Safari. I was like, OK.
Yeah, it's a bad idea, but.
Yeah, they like. Well we don't have Chrome and we can't download it. I'm like alright. Well here we go.
So, and that's exactly how it turned out.
For think warming Katie will do is will keep questions like I'll write down questions. Uhm that we get of like major ones uhm and then pop in at the end and either me or her will ask you the questions and will try to keep them at Bay and just home to watch the presentation.
So hopefully hopefully there. OK, uhm, it probably is best if you don't look at the chat 'cause you'll be distracted because it'll be like literally rapid fire for the first, like 20 minutes. Um yeah, they just they like to say hi to each other and they like to, you know, ask their questions about COVID-19 even though nobody has answered yet. So.
They just come. They literally every webinar to just get an answer out. COVID-19 so.
No more new information, right like?
Exactly nothing new from yesterday.
Are you getting a lot of the same people? Are they pretty consistent?
We definitely have our regulars that come through, uhm, I haven't actually pulled up like like pulled the information of who's attending, but I would imagine that a lot of them are similar, uhm?
We just sent out a survey yesterday actually asking about like what they prefer for fall nightfall 20. If they can't come to campus and we got a pretty good engagement still so we had. We just sent it to master student so we got over 500 responses so we're still getting like really good engagement even though everything's up in the air so.
Yeah, so we'll see I think we we do have the regulars who come through and we know some of their names so we ignore them but.
You don't have to clean for us Katie.
I know I have a mouse, stuff is everywhere. He's taking the girls to fly the drone in a few minutes on some.
All right, so you see the countdown at the top, Holly.
Do you see that the schedule of events scheduled to start in two minutes and 44 seconds it should be?
Oh yes, OK gotcha. There it is.
Yep, well that's gonna countdown and then once it gets to zero it's going to open like the whole event will open an then we're using participants. You'll see the number start to go up and then you can just wait like 3045 seconds or so. I believe. Right now we have.
No, I would imagine we've had pretty good turn out. I'd say probably around 200 will be in here, so um, will see that number jumped pretty quickly. And then you can get started.
And then at the end will pop back in and will ask the questions. A man if there's any like technical difficulties, will tell them to refresh, but if me or Katie can hear you, I might just pop in and ask you to refresh your screen or if it freezes or anything. Feel free to work, crash, uhm, and will just let them know the chat. Sometimes there's technical difficulties so.
OK, and then so that would be OK. Like if it seems like we're freezing. So if I just click refresh for Maine, it's not going to boot me out like I'll be here.
It'll blow you out in the sense of like you'll have to hit uhm, like you'll have to rejoin and hit broadcast video again. But if it happens, that's totally fine. We'd rather have you get back up on speed so.
Just do that and then I would just come to the slide I left off on OK.
Do you want me to introduce her at all or just pop in at the end?
Sure, if you want to introduce, that would be great.
Yeah, so alright I'm gonna pop out but I'll be here so if you guys need anything let me know.
How's everything been going good?
Pretty good, yeah. Actually yeah. So very fortunate. I think my I my technology stuff for the most part has been pretty smooth, so I think that makes a big difference with the work from home thing.
Yeah, so some of my colleagues have had some more problems. I was like Oh yeah, no mine just clicked right on.
Oh no, yeah. That definitely throws you into a panic.
Alright, looks like we've got about 20 seconds, so it's Jenn said like that participant list like jump, so I'll probably give it like 30 seconds before I introduce you. And then we'll.
Perfect, alright, Here's the countdown.
Very exciting or nerve wracking.

Thank you for joining us today
Alright, so first um again, I'm highly justice from the University of Buffalo Career Services office Ann. I work with students from their first year at the University.
As a undergrad all the way to PhD. So I worked with a lot of different levels of students, but the majors that I work with mostly our school of engineering, so all the engineering disciplines in computer science.
I've been doing that work for a long time, so.
I enjoy that work. I enjoy the students I work with. So, um, let's jump in.
Almaas Ali
09:02:14 AM
Good Morning
But we want to talk about finding an on campus job. Um, and what about the process of looking for a summer internship? So we're going to talk about that. So let's just jump on and talk about on campus employment first.
Mohan Sahu
09:02:49 AM
Hi everyone
So there's a few things to understand. I want to share with you about on campus employment at the University at Buffalo. To some degree, this is similar at other schools as well. So student assistantship or student assistant right? Either once when SA position on campus, there's a work study position because you'll see that listed. If you're looking for a position. I can't this, but.
Lianxi Guo
09:02:59 AM
no voice?
Guresh Mehta
09:03:01 AM
are there winter internships also just like summer?
Pratik Chaudhari
09:03:06 AM
Good Evening
A work study is from the US federal government. Uhm, you know, the federal government funds that so international students are not eligible for that. There are graduate assistantships, teaching assistantships, an research assistantships.
Lauren Rothschild
09:03:13 AM
Hi all - if you have trouble hearing the audio, please refresh your browser.
That's when we're going to talk about each of those a little bit more, because, um, what each of these positions, their titles and the what it means, and your eligibility for those. That's all really important, so I don't help. I think for you to understand, like what those different positions are before you arrive to campus, and it'll make your search a little easier to understand.
Dipanjana Sinha
09:03:38 AM
Hello!
So a student assistantship or student assistant position on campus.
Prashant Kumar Jha
09:04:06 AM
Hi
Prashant Kumar Jha
09:04:07 AM
Let’s join this telegram group I created to stay in touch https://t.me/ubfall2020
Yes, you will perform a variety of tasks, so the student assistant title covers all kinds of different jobs on campus. From doing clerical work, typing notes to doing cooking and doing cleaning, and so it covers all kinds of stuff, so most positions on campus they're not given a specific title there, just called student assistant.
Work study students we already talked about that not eligible, so let's jump forward. Graduate assistantships. So anyone who's going to be coming to campus as a master's student or a PhD student these next few, I'm talking about really pertain to graduate students. So graduate assistantship.
Now they're also known as GA positions. They are awarded to graduate students. That probably makes a lot of sense directly by the academic or administrative Department.
So that parts really important, because if you want a GA position you really want to talk directly to your Department.
Sometimes you can find positions listed and I'll talk more about where you see listings and things like that.
But most of the time you're going to talk directly to your Department. So if you're going to become if you're going to be an electrical engineer or mechanical engineering student, you want to talk to that Department, your home Department.
Koustav Banerjee
09:05:24 AM
Can I become GA at a different department?
Teaching assistantships now they are also awarded directly by academic Department.
Now that could be your home academic Department. Again, if I use the example of a mechanical engineering student, they would talk to their mechanical engineering Department.
Jennifer Gammell
09:05:51 AM
Hi Koustav - yes you can work in any dept
Don Parayil
09:05:56 AM
Are Grad Students eligible for TA and GA?
Vignesh Ashok Kumar
09:06:03 AM
Where do I start to become GA /ra/ta?
Put out a graduate love all our engineering students have knowledge and great skills in other areas as well such as math and physics, so they may be able to talk to the Math Department. The physics Department about maybe getting a teaching assistantship through their Department, so you always want to think about your Department first, but then think about where else. Yeah, the skills you have might be able to fit.
Jennifer Gammell
09:06:22 AM
Vignesh - you can contact your dept, or look on bullseye
Vignesh Ashok Kumar
09:06:24 AM
I am a grad student
One of the great things about teaching assistantship the graduate assistantship, and what I'm going to talk about next about a research assistantship, is that help significantly with tuition. So those assistantship position at the graduate level.
Vignesh Ashok Kumar
09:06:37 AM
I men I am an incoming grad student
Lindsay Diangelo
09:06:42 AM
Yes all graduate students are eligible for these TA GA RA positions
Jennifer Gammell
09:06:46 AM
Don - yes graduate students are eligible for TA/GA/RA
Not the student assistant position, but these graduate level assistantships. They usually take care of either most or all of tuition, plus a small stipend. Think about that like a small salary. OK, so they're very many students are really looking for these kinds of positions 'cause it helps with tuition. That's a big.
Vignesh Ashok Kumar
09:06:59 AM
Thanks
Malawat Simran Basant
09:07:03 AM
Can we apply for ra/ta before coming there for the fall semester
Don Parayil
09:07:05 AM
Thanku
Lindsay Diangelo
09:07:18 AM
You will need to apply once you arrive at UB
Aishwarya Sinha
09:07:27 AM
@Jennifer, ma'am i have certain doubts, can i get your e-mail-id?
Research assistantships now. There are also known as arres. I'm going to make a distinction about that a little bit lower. OK, already positions are usually worded by individual faculty members. You'll notice the difference. This was really by a faculty member versus the other two were about from the academic Department. Yeah, so talking to faculty there are more likely to have research going on.
Kousar Attar
09:07:37 AM
What is average stipend or TA/RA/ GA?
Jennifer Gammell
09:07:38 AM
Aishwarya - please email gradeng@buffalo.edu
Major research grants that they got, and they're going to be hiring people to do that work. OK, so you would want to talk with faculty members and explore that.
Malawat Simran Basant
09:07:43 AM
Okay. Well noted
Aishwarya Sinha
09:07:47 AM
Thank you!
Now you could get a research assistantship outside of your direct home Department. It is most likely that you will work within your Department. Yeah, that's very common.
So, uhm now. Please note OK residence halls on our campus. They also have positions that are called Arres there always called Arres. But that means resident advisor.
Guresh Mehta
09:08:20 AM
are GA/RA positions available in spring semester also or just summer?
Guresh Mehta
09:08:23 AM
are GA/RA positions available in spring semester also or just summer?
So two very different are a positions, research assistantship or a resident Hall Advisor. OK, now you could. You could pursue getting in a residence Hall advisor position as well.
Rajesh Kandimalla
09:08:35 AM
which dept should I contact for engineering sciences(Data Science) program?
And those usually you're living in the residence Hall. Answer your housing and is taking care of, but your tuition is not.
Jennifer Gammell
09:08:43 AM
Kousar - the TA/RA/GA position can either be full time (20 hrs) or half (10) hrs
Venkata Sai Gireesh Chamarthi
09:08:49 AM
Can you talk about the survey which we received regarding fall classes?
Now, so let's talk. That gives us the landscape of what are these different positions that are available. The typical positions that are available on campus. Now let's talk about how do we find them?
Jennifer Gammell
09:08:56 AM
it would cover tuition credits and give a stipend
So we're going to talk about the three piece job searching strategies.
In this context, but we're also going to talk about it a little bit more so.
Lauren Rothschild
09:09:07 AM
Hello Venkata - if you have any questions about the survey, please direct those to gradeng@buffalo.edu
Vishnu Sreenivas
09:09:13 AM
How many credits Jennifer?

09:09:29 AM
What Residence Hall Adv Positions exactky?
Rajesh Kandimalla
09:09:29 AM
Can we apply before coming to the campus?
Jennifer Gammell
09:09:31 AM
9 credits/semester
The three piece our postings. Those are job postings prospecting in people, so let's look at that in context. Where can I go to find an on campus job? How do I find that the first thing to do is to go to the postings and what I mean by that is jobs are listed and so the place to do that is on the career services website. We have a system called Bullseye powered by handshake.
Vinit Masrani
09:09:44 AM
I joined the webinar now, have I missed anything important? If yes, then what?
And on that system? Uhm, most of the positions on campus, the student assistant positions work. Study some of the graduate assistantship positions. Some of the RA positions those are listed under Bullseye system, which makes it very convenient for you. That way you have just a one place to go.
Isha Narula
09:10:06 AM
these positions are available in spring sem also?
Prashant Kumar Jha
09:10:08 AM
Let’s join this telegram group I created to stay in touch https://t.me/ubfall2020
Lauren Rothschild
09:10:10 AM
Vinit, you'll be able to access the webinar after it is complete
Vishnu Sreenivas
09:10:19 AM
Does RA, GA and TA, all of 'em cover 9 credits/sem and a stipend?
Jennifer Gammell
09:10:23 AM
Positions are available for both Spring and Fall
But also, you'll notice I've written on campus bulletin boards because some different offices on campus they will just list, will put a flyer on the campus bulletin board, so once you've come to campus, that's another thing you can be looking on. Our on line system Bullseye powered by hand shape. You could start doing that even from home or wherever you are in the world. You can start doing that before you come to campus. You could.
Rahul Shenoy
09:10:38 AM
Most of the assistantships are awarded to PHD students according to the seniors at UB? Is that true?
See the positions you can apply for the positions through our bullseye system, but then once you've come to campus, make sure you stop and look at some of the bulletin boards to see if anything else is posted.
Jennifer Gammell
09:10:47 AM
RA, GA, TA positions are all different based on funding source. Many offer 9 credits/semester and stipend
The other piece about looking for a job is some.
Sometimes positions are not advertised.
Jennifer Gammell
09:10:53 AM
but the offer would state what is offered
Kaustubh Sunandan Laghate
09:10:56 AM
Is there any portal where we get info about available positions of ta and ra? - this site is not loading http://www.buffalo.edu/career/Jobs.html
You may have had that experience yourself, um, in your own life already. That maybe somebody mentioned to you that a friend or family member like knew that there was an opportunity.
Um, in the recommended you.
Jennifer Gammell
09:11:25 AM
Rahul - UB SEAS funds their PhDs at time of admission
Jennifer Gammell
09:11:33 AM
Masters students can apply once on campus
Malawat Simran Basant
09:11:33 AM
Will we be emailed the ppt of this webinar
Lauren Rothschild
09:11:35 AM
Rahul - upon admission, most positions are awarded to PhD candidates. However, there are many other opportunities you can apply directly for
Abhishek Satbhai
09:11:39 AM
How many semester for CS
Same thing happens. Uhm, that happens everywhere. So looking for unadvertised openings, so ask other students once you come to campus or starting to get to know other students before you even get to campus. Really connecting with them and asking where are the jobs or are you going to be staying in your job? Are you going to be leaving her position? Maybe it'll be open so I can take it. So definitely go ahead and ask around.
Vishnu Sreenivas
09:11:44 AM
3
That's OK now. The other idea on advertised openings is considered prospecting. Prospecting is.
Lauren Rothschild
09:12:06 AM
All past webinars will be posted here: http://engineering.buffalo.edu/home/prospective/webinars.past-events.html
Asking different offices, just stopping by and say Hey, I know about your office, I'm really interested. I'd love to work in your office. Do you have any openings? Now? You could start doing that even before you come to campus. So if there are particular offices that interest you, you can reach out to them. Email them directly. Sharing your Russ May. I'm just saying I researched your office. I'd love to work in your office. If you have any.
Shubham Sharma
09:12:25 AM

09:12:28 AM

Hum student openings. So yeah, that's OK to do too now.

09:12:35 AM
Can international students have on-campus jobs during Winter and Summer session?
Shubham Sharma
09:12:59 AM
What are the chances of deferring admission to Spring 2021?
Jennifer Gammell
09:13:01 AM
Mohammed - yes intl students can work on campus during Winter and Summer
When I have done this presentation before, I would say, uhm, all the students favorite slide is this slide because it's very specific. This is a quick list of some of our most common employers. When I say common, these offices hire a lot of students to do all kinds of tasks. Obviously, campus dining in shops is on this list. They hire a lot of students. They need a lot of help.
Abhiram Vempati
09:13:12 AM
What percent of master's students get these jobs?
Koustav Banerjee
09:13:19 AM
Do these jobs also offer tuition benefits or do they only provide stipends?
Jennifer Gammell
09:13:21 AM
Shubham - if you were offered admission for Fall 2020 you are welcome to defer one time up to one year.
And so it's can be a little bit easier to get a job with them. It's not always the job everybody wants to be honest, but it is available, but also the libraries recreation, intermural athletics campus living. That's where like a residence halls and we have programming. There's also campus living includes things like academic assistance. You'll see things like the student union.
Rajesh Kandimalla
09:13:49 AM
What is the last date for deferring ?
The math plays things like that that's tutoring, so if you feel like you have some good academic skill, perhaps you could use that to get a job because you can help tutor another student and get paid to do that work. That would be great. So lots of specifics for you there.
Jennifer Gammell
09:13:56 AM
most jobs pay an hourly rate
Now continue thinking about, um, more prospecting, right? So this is you being really proactive about your search.
Lindsay Diangelo
09:14:06 AM
last day to defer is July 15, 2020
On our crew services website here you will see we do have a whole section about part time jobs on campus jobs that helps give you that listing right? So I went through that listing quick and so but you can find it on the career services website.
Venkata Sai Gireesh Chamarthi
09:14:24 AM
What is the average pay scale for the on campus jobs?
Uhm, you can also just go to thebuffalo.edu site and look at the directory to find all kinds of different offices where a big University. We've got lots of academic departments and we have all the services that surround to support those academic departments, so there's a lot of different offices to think about.
Isha Narula
09:14:47 AM
Has the university decided something for Fall 2020 semester i.e will classes be online or in -person?
Harsh Parashar
09:14:52 AM
What is the process to defer the admission?
Alright, so just a little bit of advice for do's and don'ts for you. Um, a few things to do and your application process start early.
Jennifer Gammell
09:14:58 AM
Isha - no decision has been made at this time
Jennifer Gammell
09:15:02 AM
we will be sure to update you
Hamza Abubakar Kheru Addanki
09:15:04 AM
Is it confimed that UB will NOT be online for Fall2020
Hamza Abubakar Kheru Addanki
09:15:20 AM
Ok
Jennifer Gammell
09:15:23 AM
Manish - no decision has been made at this time
And what I mean by start early you could start as early as the semester before. So for example, as we get into the summer, uhm, you could be reaching out. Uh, maybe you could be looking at the poolside powered by handshake system in the summer. Certainly in early August you'll start seeing postings opening for that fall semester, so things like that to be thinking about applying early.
Lauren Rothschild
09:15:27 AM
Harsh - you'll update your intent to enroll in your status portal. We recommend waiting until closer to July 15
And of course, if you're going to be reaching out in person, coming on campus.
Harsh Parashar
09:15:42 AM
Oh sure! Thanks.
Make a good impression when you go to visit the office smile. I had to be warm. Um, have your resume ready. OK, uhm Tom, who you are and what you're looking for and uh and if they say Well now with at the moment though that's OK. Just happy to be here right? So nice and warm and friendly.
Shubham Sharma
09:16:04 AM
Is there any disadvantage in joining spring session rather than fall 2020?
A few things may be to not do. Uhm, one is still be afraid to visit officers. It is OK and sometimes you just come up an office and you know that's the thing that really helps. So go ahead. It's OK to go in person.
Koustav Banerjee
09:16:22 AM
So, I was told that RAs are not offered for Masters students. What about students going for Thesis and hoping for PhDs later?
Rishabh Kumar
09:16:23 AM
Can we access BullsEye prior to joining the campus? And would it be the most helpful way to check for jobs before we join?
Mohit Bhagwani
09:16:31 AM
will the recording of this presentation is available for us?
Don't wait to the last minute, there are a lot of students who do want a position on campus, so many will be applying so wouldn't want you to be the last one right now. Just because you want a position with a certain company.
Jennifer Gammell
09:16:46 AM
Koustav - Masters students are offered RA positions
Or certain office. That doesn't mean you should call and email every day until they give it to you. Now that can really annoying those offices and so they may say, Well, you know what they are bothering me, so I'm just not going to.
Koustav Banerjee
09:16:55 AM
Thanks!
Put their application aside OK.
Jennifer Gammell
09:16:59 AM
Mohit - the recording will be available
Eshwar Narayana Setty Kumar
09:17:02 AM
Will the slides be shared? Request you to please share it if possible
Lauren Rothschild
09:17:05 AM
http://engineering.buffalo.edu/home/prospective/webinars.past-events.html
Um, seem right. You don't want to come in in person to the same office every day. Let's not do that either. That doesn't work.
So a little bit of assistance also. So, um, one of the big assistance you can have is the career services office, which is why I get to come and talk with all of you today. So our office is located in 259 keeping hole. But we have dropping towers that are online now. Live cat. It's you're welcome to live chat with us during our drop in hours. You can make appointments with us.
Hamza Abubakar Kheru Addanki
09:17:54 AM
I have accepted my intent to enroll. Should I submit my finance docs once if i am able to take a decision on deferring say week before july15?
Those are the two main ways to interact. We do a lot of workshops as well. And of course we manage the Bullseye powered by handshake system where you would go and look for different positions, so we're happy to help you any way that we can.
Sumeet Sahu
09:17:56 AM
what could be the pay for RA?
Sruthikeerthi Nandita Rajagopalakrishnan
09:18:08 AM
Can we defer our admission even if the university is open for Fall 2020?
A little bonus advice. Uhm, so usually the Friday before classes start, so that's like our opening weekend. Welcome everybody. Things like that they have Friday. We usually have an on campus job fair and the on campus part means like all different departments around campus, different offices we have them come into a little job fair on campus that Friday.
And a lot of students do they go. And they talked about a lot of different offices all at once. Within one hour an.

In general
Sometimes get interviews right away after that because of the opening of the campus opening of the fall semester. Lots of offices like, OK, we know how many people we need. We need to hire a lot of students. So it's a great opportunity. So just so you know, so I don't have the date for sure. If it's obviously that changes every year, but we're usually the the Friday before classes start.
Um, now if you've got questions about on campus job, put that in the chat and we're going to come. Take care of all your questions at the end of the presentation, so I'll get back to that in a little bit.

That so preparation you wanna make sure before you do your summer internship search that you have your resume ready. You know how to have a cover letter, how to write a cover letter. What is that? How to interview all of those things you want to give it? Be prepared. But then the strategies for looking are going to be these same postings. Prospecting in people annual here my office. We talk about these strategies quite a bit.

And indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor and lots more sites out there. I have some students, especially now. We're also going to be looking at something called Parker Dewey because they are the main company. I would say vendor if you will. Who handles micro internships in facilitating those?
Um, so the career services office, as I've mentioned, we have our bullseye power BI handshake system. We also do on campus interviewing so companies will come to campus specifically looking for students for the summer. And so you could do your interview right on campus. It's very convenient and we do have career fairs. Specifically, we have a big stem career fair in the fall semester. It's usually early fall, so important for all of you to know about that.

In this sense uhm when we're talking about your summer internship now we really want to be creating a target list of companies and so you get to create that target list based on what's important to you so maybe you care about a certain geographic location.
All right, uhm, but maybe you don't. Maybe you care that, uhm, you want a company from a Fortune 500 company, right? Well, big brand name company. Maybe that's important. Uh, you know. Whatever the criteria is, that's important to you. Certainly have had a lot of students who in it by international students that I work with who will say what companies have sponsored for something like an H1B. I'd like to know who those companies are.
Those are the companies that's going to be my target list. Great, that's that makes sense. So yes, you can create that.

So how much my ideas about how we can create our target lists? How would we start identifiying companies now? You could certainly start with your professional network and your professional network means faculty, staff, friends, and family. Even we just have ideas about who would be good companies who are major companies in your field.
LinkedIn, LinkedIn will give you lots of ideas of companies in a certain industry area.

It's a database of just companies so you can get thousands and thousands of companies lists.

Hannah had network of connections can provide you encouragement, support, perspective, new insights, things you hadn't thought of before, right? They may if there's someone who is in the field, give you special insight that you didn't know before. So and sometimes I can lead to a position, right? Maybe a referral. So it's very important and it certainly can help you to find mentors.
In your field which is so important that you have I would love for you to have at least one mentor gotta have at least one and I'd love for you to have multiple mentors.
Now how do you get started now I've got again all kinds of ideas about how you could get started networking with you know very simple steps and bigger activities but for today for now the one thing I'd like to share with you about how you could get started is that you can reach out to you be alumni.
So University of Buffalo, something that we offer to our students. Is there something called? Are Carreira Connector Network and that is a database of you be alumni who have volunteered and said they want to help you be students an our students have full access to this database and they can go in. They can see the alumni that have volunteered and then they can in a couple of clicks schedule.

More technical definition are multiple work blocks so if a company says yes I want to hire you as a Co op they may mean I'd like you to come and work for the fall and the spring semester or maybe the summer and the fall usually together but sometimes it can also mean I come back to the same company so I come in the summer and then I come again in the spring so it's usually multiple work blocks but also I'd like to caution.

That those that is the more specific definition of those 2 vocabulary words companies do not always use them by their correct definition so if you're say if you personally are not sure if you want to do a Co-op I don't know if that fits in my academic plan you're not sure for yourself I want to do an internship I just want to do one summer something like that if you see a position that's listed as a Co op.

Please go ahead and apply uhm so and then when you get selected for interview you can have more of a conversation with the company to see is this truly a Co op which would be multiple work blocks and you have to decide if that works for you now or if they might be willing to take you on as an intern so definitely be apply for a wide range of kinds of positions don't lock yourself out first.

UB does not build in a Co-Op to your program specifically, but if you can make it work that is great! Talk to your academic coordinator about possibilities.
And one thing just to piggyback on what Holly said there too. There's a lot of questions coming in about how it could possibly fit in your program and what's allowed with your course is definitely connect with your program coordinator. Each Department each have an assigned graduate program coordinator that you want to go over your schedule with with them. Any programmatic questions and so forth, so be sure that you connect with your graduate program coordinator for those types of questions. And also there's a lot of immigration questions that are coming in.

Thank you alright. How do you think that wraps up the questions that they have? I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for coming today and just a couple key points here. This webinar will be uploaded to our engineering website, so if you had trouble with your audio, if you missed a portion of it, the complete webinar will be available. So if you click on that coded link on the engineering website, you will be able to view this right here right there. I apologize.
