Well, the question that I've heard from students in these sessions is How do I get an internship and just for your radar? Both got an amazing prestigious internship at her dream company this summer and it was cancelled because of coronavirus.

Alright, Good afternoon welcome. Welcome to our school of engineering and Applied Sciences presentation. Congratulations to all of you for being admitted to you, be. We hope that we can answer some questions for you.

Get some more information out there for everybody to see.

Alright, alright we'll get started. Good afternoon. My name is Noelle Matthews. I am one of the academic advisors for the school of undergrad education for School of Engineering. This is an undergraduate presentation. I saw that question pop up. If you have any questions throughout the presentation, please feel free to type them in the comment section. I have all the questions that were pre submitted, so thank you for doing that. When you register it. I am hoping to answer all of them as we go throughout the presentation today.

If not like I said, please feel free to type all of your questions in the chat. We have several people on board here behind the scenes that you don't see their faces, so I'll introduce those people in a second, but my.

Student with me today. Go ahead Bo.

I run my name is Bursa. I'm a genius. You be and I'm in the Biomedical Engineering Program. I've been involved in several things. My conference, including light research clubs, little about the internship process. So I'm just here to kind of give you a little bit about my experience.

Yeah, so on some of the questions you might have for me as well.

Alright, OK so again my name is Noelle. I'm one of the academic advisors for the school of engineering and Applied Sciences. Some of these slides might look familiar as we get going. I did borrow some of them from our admissions presentation, so if you did come to one of our tour sessions or open house, you may look familiar. However, I'm using those to illustrate some of the questions that were resubmitted. I'm just so we can have a visual and you can get some more information.

Again, we have our.

I'm assistant Dean for undergraduate education. Doctor Kerry Collins gross with us behind the scenes, so you'll see her typing some responses to the questions as well and will get to see her at the end of the session when they bring some questions forward for myself. It for boat to answer. We also have Shannon Phillips. She also works in our office for undergraduate education for the school of engineering. You'll see her pop in the questions as well, and I'm hopeful that they will share my email with you as well in the chat. So this way if you have any questions for us after the fact, you are more than welcome to.

Email me, I know we have some transfer students as well that are involved, so some of those questions might be specific to your situation and I'd be glad to answer any of those after the fact. Alright, OK, so here is an overview of all of our department's here within the school of engineering and applied scientists. So as you can see, we have all of our engineering programs as well as our computer science and computer engineering. It's nice 'cause we have a lot of partnerships with other schools on campus. So for example, biomedical engineering.

Is joint with the Jacobs School of Madison so a lot of research opportunities an obviously students looking into pre health usually go that route, but not necessarily not the case with all situations. We also have materials, design and innovation with the College of Arts and Sciences and some good news. We do have an undergrad program for materials design, innovation coming up as well, so you may see them or you may choose two. Transfer into that program while you're here so will have more information on our website as we get further in depth with that program.

So it's really nice that a lot of these we've been able to expand both at the undergraduate level and of course, the graduate level. If that is something that you are looking at after your four years with us.

Within the school of engineering, these are our degree program. So inside all those Department that I just listed on the previous slide, these are our degree program. So we have your undergraduate degree or bachelors of Science Behavior. Bachelor of Arts program as well. We have an offering for computer science with them. We also have our Masters in our PhD program. So it's nice once you start at you be you can follow through with any.

Upper level education. Our graduate programs, and so on. So a lot of research opportunities, your writing skills and so on can carry you all the way through. If you do decide to say for a higher level degree with us, some questions that we have previously were in regards to the intended versus the approved program. So as an incoming freshman or an incoming transfer student, you may have been admitted to our one of our intended programs, or one of our.

Approved programs so for intended you are following the same flow sheet you are following. The same plan is all of our proved majors. However, we're focusing on the core courses and a GPA requirement to move you into the approved program so you are core courses for all of our engineering program. So this is all of our programs outside of computer science. Essentially, would be your calc one. So math 141, math 142, scalp two chemistry and then Physics Ochem 101 or Chem 107 Anar Physics 107.

We're looking for a C minus or higher in each of those individual courses with a combined GPA of 2.5. Again just focusing on those four specific courses. We also look at your overall GPA for all majors outside of mechanical aerospace, an computer, computer science, computer engineering will talk about computer science and in a moment we're looking for a 2.5 GPA with those that I just mentioned, it will be a 2.8 overall GPA, so again, all the advisors in our office we will work with you to make sure that you're staying on track.

And they are taking the appropriate courses and working to move from the intended into the approved program. If you have specifics on your specific situation as to being intended, and especially for transfer students right coming in with maybe some of these classes or not all of them, please reach out to me directly. I'd be more than happy to answer your specific situation for computer science, the core is going to be math 141, so the calculus one. Then we're looking at the computer science courses. So CSC 115 CC 116 and then CS 91.

The core remains the same. the C minus or higher where they combine 2.5 GPA. Your overall GPA would be a 2.8, so again we have some restrictions. If you were admitted into the proof program or we are not focusing on the completion of the core, we're not focusing on a specific overall, you just need to maintain 2.0 GPA to remain in good standing with the school of engineering and also with the University at Buffalo. Again, specific questions. Please feel free to reach out to me directly. I'd be more than happy to give you some more insight.

On on that situation.

OK, this is a just a glance at the curricular structure was there was a lot of questions coming in about how the first year is going to be set up. How do we choose classes so this one? I do have a lot of information to provide for you the first year and all of our disciplines again with the exception of our computer science program is very similar. Calc one calc two you have your chemistry. You have your physics worked in. We do work in an intro to engineering and injure to be with your seminar that's required for the UV curriculum. And then we work in some pathway courses within the second year you might start to see.

Some EAS courses in there. We have a follow-up course to our seminar that we work in and then leading into the second. Here is where you get to see some specialization, so you might see an intro course to your major. So for example, intro to be me. You might see your intro to mechanical in that fall semester and then as we progress into the third year. This is all of the core content for all of our engineering program. So this is where you're going to see all of your mechanical classes. All of your industrial classes. This is really the core content which could lead you into a summer internship.

Between the junior and the senior year, it also lead you right into the 4th year. We work our design classes. Specific electives for the major. So these are courses that you're able to pick from to help you reach your end goals. Again, this could be a career that you've always wanted. This could be Masters program, a PhD program, so those electives can really help you more or less specialize within the major to get what you want out of it to lead you to that karere. So a couple questions I received was how does the.

Engineering curriculum compared to other schools on campus you'll see that every major works in those you be curriculum requirements in terms of the science classes you need what you need for math and then what you need for your general education courses you be calls them half ways so you'll see your pathway setup engineering does a great job we work in a lot of the math so you're not going to be taking any separate math courses or science courses again with the exception of computer science where you have the ability to do use your science chain and we can talk more about that when you meet with your advisor.

In terms of keeping on track for the program as well as keeping on track for you be curriculum.

Hey we work in a lot of those like I said those math courses as science courses you will be taking your pathway courses separate an also engineering we have a floating you can access those run our website so Shannon orbot hopefully can link right now our undergraduate flow sheet so you can take a look at the program that you're interested in you'll see that we have all 4 years print out for you pretty much to AT we have a lot of required courses which is necessary to get you to your career goal and we have the electives that are worked into your senior year unlike some other programs at the University you do not.

Have a large elective pool electives are going to be reserved for classes within your your program and also some technical electives so we don't always have a lot of just free electives built in now computer science if you look at the curriculum structure the first year we do start right away with computer science courses and this carries right through your program second year you're going to see those 200 level computer science courses worked in we also help you build in your science sequence essentially at this point as long as as well as some of your pathway courses?

Third year is really where you get to dive into those are you be elective those computer science electives so you're touching on 4 areas of the computer science program with your theory your hardware your software an your artificial intelligence.

And you get to pick the classes which is really nice layout so again you can specialize you're allowed to pick 2 additional electives from one of those categories you are allowed to do again research an independent study internships as part of the computer science program as well and we do build in free electives into computer science to help students reach 120 for graduation some students need for elective some students do not it just really depends on the credits that you're going to be taking again this is all in conjunction with your advisors and we will work with you.

We will work with you from the time that you set foot. You be until the time that you graduate. We also work in our faculty advisors to help you with those upper level courses to make sure again, you're working toward internships. You get research if that's something that you want, career jobs, internships, and then obviously going forward to your masters and PhD. I know we touch on that a lot, but that's really what the faculty are there to focus on in to help you with.

Pay for your incoming freshman year, so we'll talk about our incoming freshmen and then touch on our transfer students as well. For the freshman, you are all put into a cohort, so we schedule you within our office. We do this after the deposit deadline, which is now June 1st. It has been extended. If you do have scholarships, that deadline is still May 1st, so please make sure to go in and accept your scholarships by May 1st. If you know you do want to to join us at you before to school of engineering, we look through all of our students. If you do not have any AP or transfer credits coming in that will affect your placement.

For the first year, we go ahead and put you in a cohort. So a typical first year schedule for engineering programs would look like calculus one chemistry 107. Our seminar course, which could be EAS 199. Essentially, in some cases you're going to see English 105. In some places you might see a pathway Corsa Gen Ed Course worked in again, if you do not have a P or transfer credits coming in, we schedule you in a code word, so you are taking those classes of their engineering students so they could be within your major. They could be within another major.

But you are with all engineering students. If you have AP courses or transfer credits coming in from a from a college University that you took in high school, we will have you schedule an appointment to talk with an advisor. In regards to how you plan on using those credits. For example, if you have credit coming in from an AP for math 141 Calc one, we want to talk to you about how comfortable you might be starting in Calculus II, and if that's the case, will help you enroll in that class. And then of course, keep you within a cohort so you are taking your chemistry, your English or pathway a seminar class, again with other engineering students, so we will work with you to help you.

Well, that first semester schedule, second semester, it's up to you. You get to pick the class as you want, but again, we really advise meeting with one of our advisors in our office, which again we all have caseloads now. So you will be assigned to specific advisor which is nice to get to know and build that relationship with right off the bat trip students we are sending out emails this week. So if you did not get an email, be patient. It is coming. This is for students to schedule a registration appointment with an advisor in our office. We have you call our office.

And will set you up with an hour appointment. Each transfer student is different depending on what kind of credits they're coming in. With some students come in with maybe a semester of credits or two semesters of credits. Some transfer students come in with two full years worth of credits, so your particular situation is going to be different. Some students come in as an intended student. As we mentioned before, some come right into the approved program, so it's really important that when you do get the email to make an appointment with an adviser, you do so so we can help you make the best schedule for you and where you line up.

In our programs.

We do start a registration appointments coming up, usually beginning of May into June is when we do the bulk of our transfers and then of course throughout this summer. So if you don't get an email right away, maybe you're waiting on some paperwork or a decision to be made. You will get that email accordingly and then you'll be able to schedule an appointment with us, so watch your email and be mindful on. Then again, specific questions. Go ahead and email me. I'd be glad to look into anything and follow up with you after the session.

As you can see from the curricular structure, it is easy to change your major within the school of engineering. We recommend doing it within the first year after the first year, maybe possibly the first semester of your second year, because that's where the specialization hits. So be cause all of our programs, again with the exception of computer science, are very similar. You can go ahead and change your major from one area of engineering into another without much of a set back. If you do it within the first year. Most likely you'll still stay within that four year time frame. If you do it. After that, you might be looking at a summer class or an extra semester.

It just depends on where you're at in the in the Flowsheet. Again, transfer credits coming in, AP credits and so on. Talk to an advisor. I can't stress that enough and would be happy to help you make the change that's most seamless for you within the program.

Hey there RTA is for classes that can offer office hours to help you out and also remotely. We have tutoring options as well. We have our own tutoring options within the school of engineering, are fresh and small groups help you out with the first year? More so focusing on those core classes that I talked about, we have a tutoring academic success office, entire University that will provide tutoring academic success strategies, coaching and so on. So we have a lot of resources that can help you not only your first year but carry on throughout the four years also.

Hey, in one last question to focus on and the curricular structure would be trying out classes, is it possible to try out classes before you set your schedule, whereas we don't allow students to sit in on classes before you enroll? Essentially to kind of try things out once we make your schedule, you do have a whole week from the first from the day the first classes for this semester. So it's called our add drop period. We allow you a whole week to change your schedule without any type of penalties for financial aid or or tuition or anything like that. Again, I can't stress enough to meet with an adviser.

Our office does drop in appointments the entire first week so you don't have to schedule an appointment. You can come in and talk to us and that's what we were there for. Making adjustments to your schedule. Maybe an AP credit class came in late and you want to change something around. Maybe you just want to change the time of a pathway class or whatnot. We can help you with that. We want to talk to you and make sure that we're not changing your schedule or throwing anything of-. Essentially in that regards, alright.

OK, here are some curricular options for you. So In addition of just coming over to engineering for a bachelors degree for four years we have some options where you can really build on an add on to your time here on the first one being a five year bachelors NBA combine degree program and we offer those for our chemical, electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering programs. So essentially your 4th year an your fifth year would be a combination of your undergrad courses and then the MBA courses we keep you in a cohort with the NBA.

So you're going to be with the same students for that, but it's a nice segue. It's a nice program.

For five years, if you are looking to do a little bit more in terms of management or kind of follow that after graduation. We have a double major program with aerospace and mechanical engineering, so this is where we would have you do the aerospace program as your primary program and then add on mechanical engineering. There's five courses from the mechanical engineering flow sheet that we add on to aerospace so again really popular with our mechanical in our aerospace students. If you're looking to do both, I'm not required, but it is a nice option that we offer. We also have our five year programs within the school of engineering and Applied Sciences.

Right now we have those set with electrical, computer science and Biomedical Engineering where you can do your bachelors and Masters degree in five years. So the same concept as the MBA program we do work in some of those undergrad and graduate courses that fourth year and then the fifth year. It would be strictly your Masters program. So those Masters courses will kind of drop in and satisfy Mehmet within the undergraduate program. We have minor, so this was another population about adding a minor on. Do we do that right away when we apply or can we do that later?

This is a list of our miners with in the school of engineering and applied scientists our undergraduate catalog will list all the minors at the University has to offer so you're welcome to minor within the school of engineering or another program outside of our our wheelhouse essentially most of our programs you do not add on until you have 45 credit hours complete so this could be again transfer credits so some transfer students might be able to add these on sooner than our incoming freshman but talk to an advisor we can help you again with what courses overlap between minors and majors.

How to best add these on to your schedule, especially if you have financial aid, we want to make sure that you're following all of the protocol. Essentially, if you have excels here or if you have tab, the stem scholarship and other popular aid with our students, so we want to make sure that you're following your degree credits and then adding your minor courses on appropriately. So, no, you do not have to worry about adding a minor on now. This is something you can certainly talk to your advisor about that first year, and we can see and let you know when the best time to add things on our.

Engineering tracks in the major we touched on. That's going to be your upper level elective courses where you're allowed.

Or you're allowed to.

Take courses appropriately.

Within your program, an electives and so on. Sorry so everything glitching a little bit. Just wanted to make sure that we were still OK.

Hi.

OK, so I'm going to talk a little bit about undergraduate research. We tend to get a lot of questions about how someone can get involved in undergraduate research and why my wife that might be a good option for that person to write from your second semester as a freshman you can actually get involved in research and this can be if maybe you're trying to develop your knowledge in certain area. Or maybe you have absolutely no knowledge in that area.

You want to learn more about it. The great thing about you be is that because we are in Tier 1 research percentage tied the majority of faculty members across the Department will conduct in some sort of research, so there's a lot of different topics that you can kind of get involved in as a second semester freshman, and who museum is easy. It's just kind of like shooting an email, so maybe you read about a professor who's involved in a certain topic that you like. You can reach out to them through email, talk about your qualifications and why you would like to get involved with that project. Then you have a short meeting with that professor.

I mean, you could work in the lab, so at the different types of roles that you could have in the lab depends really on how much knowledge you bring it in. So if maybe you're not completely aware of the topic, they might just have you like shadowing the lab so they might have. You may be preparing for experiments, watching experiments, taking down data, and the more you kind of know like the more of an upperclassman you are, the more responsibility they give you the lab. So you might be completely running your own project and then you might actually have the possibility to maybe present so you might.

Make a research based on what you've learned and happy pertaining to present. Or you could publish a few.

And a lot of work into everything presently working on.

Said that, is recent. You can also take a research for credit, which is really cool, and it's definitely something to consider if you're looking at grad schools. So another thing that is really cool about you be is our clubs, because we're such a huge facility. There's so many different clubs that you can get. You can take part of and this can be closed by an engineering and outside of engineering it mostly just depends on what your interests are, but it's a great way to kind of shape. You roll University campus experience. So with engineering codes they are.

The mandate is to basically take anybody of any major so you don't have to be a particular engineering major. Take part in a particular engineering hub, which means that if you have a club looks cool. For example, Biomedical Engineering Society. But you, an electrical engineer who is involved with kind of interested in bio medical problems, and you can also join that club.

And on how to join a club with his easiest, putting your email down so when you first come into school, we're going to have. Normally we have a huge fair weather clouds can present. They have tables lined out and we have kind of like a lesbian. Just put down your email about as easy as it takes to kind of join the club so you can join as many colors you want. You don't have to go to every meeting. You kind of just go to what your interests, what you're interested in. But another great thing about clubs is a lot of them going to competitions to right now in the slide you can see the steel bridge competition.

And these are prestigious conversations. Their national conversations. We compete with scores from across America, and we do quite well in these in these competitions as well. But what's great about this is as well as research in clubs. These are great resume builders, so when it comes time to maybe apply for jobs open, apply to grad school. These are the kind of things that will set you apart from other students in other scores and as well as that, clouds are a great way to kind of meet other peoples. If you're coming in as a freshman, maybe don't know a lot of people in your major clubs remains are kind of meat. Your peers maybe even made some upperclassmen who cannot.

Looking help you out, keeping the right advice kind of show you how to navigate through your whole four years at eBay.

Another really great initiative that you should probably consider is wise. That stands for women in science and engineering. It's an initiative that basically provides support and activities for women, stem students, and the whole goal of Wise is to increase their women success in Stanfield as well as recruit women for some fields. So we take part in different activities we have on research activities. Outreach activities will be going to local high schools and we conduct little programs. We do alot like fun things as well. We have movie nights we make around succulents, little things like that. But we also have.

Just because Carmen talks about talk to us about their experience working in professional Stanfield. But it's also it's just a great thing to consider. And if you do consider wise as a freshman, you get to move in a day early, which is really, really cool as well. So that's why.

I think the biggest question that we tend to get is all about internships, about how to navigate internship, how to apply, where do you find these companies and that sort of thing you be doesn't have a rigid internship program to the respect that we don't tell you when you can, when you should be taking an internship so you can kind of decide when you want to take an internship throughout your four years at you be you can take it during this semester. Then it's considered a Co op or you can take it during summer break and it's considered an internship. What you be provided.

Provide you is with the support to fix your resume so we have a service in UBS called career services. They will help you fix your resume. They will help you set up your LinkedIn profile that though even tell you what to wear to enter to interview or what to wear headset professional picture so they can help you with kind of like the background to help you prepare to actually start applying and then after that we have a service called handshake. It's a website online where you can sign on directly and you see local companies who will post.

Will post jobs or post in terms of opportunities for students what's really great again about you being because we're the only engineers on the area, we find that a lot of local companies will hire or look to hire students directly from BB and we have this program called the career exploration program, which companies will directly post internships on handshake specifically for you be students. So that's another resource you could use to find internships and apply as well as that you be itself holds a Korean fat every fall semester. It's called the steam.

It's harder for semester. Every year we have a lot of local companies will come directly to you being the alumni center, set up tables and you get to go just a video shop suit. Take your resume with you that you get to basically basically picture sort of these companies to get full time jobs and to get internships as well as this. If you are involved in clubs, a lot of clubs tend to hold annual conventions or conferences and during these conferences they also hold career fairs. So maybe you're not looking to work at a company locally maybe.

You want to work in California, for example. It's a great way to kind of reach out to these companies that might not be locally in Buffalo or locally in New York. Again, you need to last three services to compare you with your resume and compare you with like what to wear, what to say, your elevator pitch, and then you can use your clubs to attend these conferences and meat companies in person as well. So there are different types of ways you can get involved in internships. The best thing with the best way to prepare when it comes to applying for internships is to utilize every research opportunity at you be.

Utilize club experiences to build up your resume and also utilize intramurals and tinkering programs.

And you be, I think I was going to talk a little bit more about Intramurals and tinkering problems. We have it. You be.

I'm basically.

OK, so this might might look familiar if you sat in on the session with Doctor Arrington and Doctor Olnick in regards to experience still learning, but we always like to touch on this a little bit more to show you that there's more to the school of engineering outside of sitting in your in your classes where you can actually take that knowledge outside of the classroom with things that we offer on campus as well as your internships that Bo described and also your undergraduate research. So we support all of that.

You're tinkering is going to be a tinkering lab which have access to your first year, so some things would be like a curing. Taking that apart, thinking outside the box, and starting to think like an engineer to put it back to bed together. Can you do a better than Kerry did the first time? So those are some things to play around with. The Inter murals are groups of students, so you can do cross disciplines and Whatnot, but it's really nice that companies come to us with real life problems and looking for solutions. They're looking for our students to come up with a solution, so one of the more popular ones you might know of is M&T Bank. I'm sure you've heard of them if you're not.

Joining them, but our students are able to redo an app for empty. That also worked with all of our smartphones. I'm kind of behind the scenes work, so how did it work? How is it efficient and really, really be able to re do that? So if you're working with M&T and you have the app, it's a very good chance that that's the one that our students came up with.

Bo did a great job explaining all of our internships and then all the research and design classes worked into our senior year of our programs. Alot of these like I said so biomedical for example, you're actually going to be building a prosthetic, so we kind of start with part one. The intro class in the fall semester, and then spring semester is where you're doing the hands-on program for industrial engineering. It's the only engineering program that requires an internship, so you have an internship built into this last semester class, which is nice because you can go into an area that you're thinking of possibly.

Joining for Akarere and make sure it's what you like, so the faculty member that does that class has a career fair. Essentially, that first week of the spring semester with a lot of local companies, so you're welcome to find your own internship or they bring companies on campus and they help match you up, which is great. So it's a great experience.

And the final thing we like to mention a study abroad. A lot of our students do take advantage of study abroad. It is easier for engineering students to do so over a winter or summer because of how it's structured. Our programs are, but it's not to say that if you wanted to go during a fall or spring, again, work with your advisor and will make sure that you're taking appropriate courses abroad, whether their program courses or whether their courses that can feel for those pathways. In this way, when you come back, we can help you get again back on track or back on track as best as we can.

Considering what you've taken abroad and when you go to the study abroad website and I can have Shannon link that thank you ahead of time that you can see that there are programs associated with the school of engineering. So there's programs where you can take our statics class. For example, there's programs where you can take our stem communication res 360. There's programs for mechanical engineer in Germany the summer before, where you can take that research in design clouds. So we help you out as best as we can, and we want our students to take advantage of our study abroad, work with the study abroad office if that's something that you would like.

To do they really help you kind of get the plant set up and making sure that you're enrolling and so on on time.

Hey so that is it for our slide portion of the show. We do want to make sure that we touch base and answer a lot of these questions. I was watching some of them scroll up, elbow was talking so if there are questions that we didn't touch base with during the presentation, we want to make sure that we do reach out and answer those now.

But I do want to dress real quickly. The concern that we all have in regards to our current situation of COVID-19 and I want to address that we are working on everything an answers hopefully will be available soon and as soon as we know our students are going to know too in regards to the fall semester. But given the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, we can't predict its impact on the fall 2020 classes at this time. Nevertheless, we are confident that weather classes are in person or online. You be will continue to provide students with a world class.

Education and we can stand by that. But again, if you have concerns, please reach out. I know our main you be engineer emails also been put in the comments as well.

But what can I answer for you, um, what else do you guys have? Please answering questions for myself? Or for Bo? If you want a student perspective on anything.

I know Elvis is Carrie. I've been monitoring the questions and there are some that have not been answered yet and I think the theme is what happens next. So we have both knew first year students who will be joining us as well as transfer students. and I know you did review this, but if you could repeat information with regards to the next steps in terms of advise. Minton registration for both of those populations.

Sure sure. So in regards to the advisement. Peace, i'ma start with our freshmen. So your deposit deadline has been pushed back to June 1st. Unless you have a scholarship so please be mindful of that. That is still May 1st that you want to accept your scholarship. How it works is we gather all of our first year students an we put you in cohort so we do the scheduling for you. So if you do not have any AP credits or transfer credits coming in we will go ahead and schedule you in a cohort.

Of those courses for the first semester. So if you are an engineering program, it'll be calculus one math 141. It'll be a chemistry class, cat 107. It'll be a seminar class. Yes, 199 is what we go for first, that's our own seminar course that will link up with the UV curriculum English 105. So in English course if you do not have AP credits coming in for it or you are not wave from it based on your essay TR AC T scores. Or it could be a pathway course as well so we could help you pick your first pathway Gen Ed Course going into the program. So if you do not have any AP or transfer credits we go ahead and put.

Even a cohort and notify you of your schedule if you have AP credits coming in or transfer credits, we notify you to make appointment with an advisor 'cause we want to go over those AP credits. Those transfer credits to see where they come in. Are they giving you pathway credit? Are they working for an English course? A math course of Science Course? Where are they going? Do you definitely want to use those? Are you comfortable using those and how can we set up your first semester schedule? We do try to keep you in those cohorts as best as we can, so if we are jumping around, if you have calculus, one credit coming in, we're going to go ahead and put you in Calculus II.

But we keep you within a cohort, so you are with our engineering students. OK, so that's how we work. Our freshmen transfer students. You should be if you are admitted and you haven't admitted to the school of engineering. In addition to being admitted to you, be, you will get an email asking you to contact our office to schedule a one hour appointment for registration for the fall semester. We can do those via phone. We can do those via Webex, so that's very similar to this platform here and will work with you to make your first semester schedule so we can enroll you in those classes.

It is scheduled for an hour because we take a look at all of your transfer credits coming in, and it's different for every situation. Students could be lining up with a first year of the program. You could be lighting up all the way with your third year of a program, so we want to take a look at transfer credits and also if you have credits at aren't transferring in so say it's a class that we've never had come over to you be before we want to work with you to get the syllabi to see if we can get all the credit that we can for you. So transfer students are a little bit more in depth than our incoming freshman, so we will work with you on them.

We start making appointments usually in May, so please get in as soon as you get that email. Call our office and get on our radar and then will meet with you again for that hour. Annual have on a contact for an advisor, so if we are continuing to work with you over the summer for credits coming in, we can do that.

There were a few questions that were pre submitted. Unfortunately I don't have all of the answers for those, but I did want to touch base. I'm just to let you know that I can provide some additional follow up some questions regarding what type of computer would be possible. I know most students do a windows type computer, however if you go to our engineering or are you buy it so that's our campus.

I guess computer it website. There are some information on what type of computer would be required. One of the specs that you're looking for. What kind of goes best with what we need on campus. However, desktop or laptop would be up to you. Whatever you find most convenient is what I'm hearing from a lot of students that come in all of the software that would be needed for Engineering is available in the engineering computer labs that are spread throughout our buildings. But again, if you need it to download something you just want to check with it and also your faculty in regards to them.

Some questions from our international student population regards to visas. If we are online for the fall, I would highly recommend that you reach out to our international student services office or go to their website. At least they're going to have updates for you posted on the website, and they're going to make sure that they are in contact with our incoming students to see how this could change for the fall so it would be our international student services office. If you want to go ahead and check out their website again, they're going to keep every student updated with information and always check your email, whatever.

Email you've listed as the contact for engineer for the University and then also your buffalo.edu account. That's where a lot of official communication will go. Make sure you're checking everything. This way you aren't missing any important information that might come through. Also housing what type of housing is there? There's several different styles on campus. If you have specific questions on housing, again, refer to the website for campus living. They have a chat feature that you can go to as well. We're going to be able to get in touch with a staff member if you have something quick.

You're curious about what's what's happening with housing. We do have all those Contacts as well, and then I had some some questions referring to the dining options, so we have dining halls on campus. We have our Commons on campus where you can find subway. You can find Rachel's which is Mediterranean. We victim Horton's on campus as well as a Starbucks. So whatever your preferences there we have.

Dining options right on our main campuses as well. Different cafes located throughout Anna new dining Hall being built now as we speak. Called One World Cafe hopefully will see that ready within the next year and a half or so. Well, a lot coming in terms of our options. Again there are meal plans on campus.

Yes, there are meal plans for commuters. If you are not living on campus, so those should all be available on our website as well. In terms of what you can do for what type of student you are, whether you're a student living on campus or whether you're commuting student.

Are there any other questions for Bo? Anybody want a student perspective on anything on classes on you be?

There is on campus parking. Yes, you need a parking pass.

In regards to deferrals, I would contact undergraduate admissions. They can type in the best process in regards to if differing is an option for you or what to do if you decide not to attend for the fall semester.

Did you guys talk about um meal plans food? There's a question here about can you eat in the dining Hall if you don't have a meal plan?

So yes, you can definitely in the dining Hall and we don't have a meal plan. If you are a freshman student who lives on campus, you have to have a meal plan. Which is fine because it gives you the opportunity to try everything that you be and what's so great about this. So many options, like I think even in myself.

Discovering different areas and you need to eat so your freshman year you have time open. If you live on campus, but it's great because you can try everything and then a lot of options if you don't have a meal plan that's still fine. You can still buy food in every basically anywhere you be a little option, so that's at least one really good thing to look forward to.

OK, but what is your favorite aspect you be offers on campus?

I think just the fact that there's so many different things to do like you could just be walking through the halls and look through a room in the second event going on. There's always something going on on campus. The really important thing to know is you have to read your emails. If you don't read your emails, you're not aware of when these different events are going to be reading emails.

Everything that they would be so large it just opens the door to so many things. And when I talked about my friends in different majors and different Department, everybody has a different experience because they've all taken part in so many different things because there's so many different things to offer. So I think that's definitely might have everything that you be if I'm interested in something, there's always someone doing something involved in that topic that I could take part in what I wanted to switch from one research for another to change topics. There was a professor he was doing the thing that was interested in.

So that's definitely my favorite thing that you value. B is just the fact that this is really just a lot that you could do right from your freshman year.

I see a question about undecided engineering. If you come in undecided, we recommend choosing a major at the end of your first year, maybe even going into the second year. But it depends. Just like we went over that curricular structure. You want to make sure that you are staying on track as best as you can. The later that you switch, you may be off by a semester or so because of the classes and what's required for that particular program. Also, if you have financial aid.

You do need to be an approved program by 60 credits, so that would be the end of the sophomore year. So we really work with students and really help by the end of the freshman year. Going into the second year.

I like this question. How much time do you spend studying?

At.

A lot of time studying you know engineering in general. Instead, it's a difficult course. You just have to really plan your time wisely. Of course, if you don't study throughout the semester and then a quiz or exam pops up, you're going to be doing the owners. But if you kind of utilize your time effectively right from the beginning of the semester, if you're good with your homework, you going to office hours, you speak to your professors right from day one, then it makes it easier going forward. You still study a lot, and I can't give you a direct time to how much I studied you because it's just a lot.

But if you plan your time well, an if you not. If as soon as you learn a topic, if you deal with any problems you have, but that's a bit right from day one, then it definitely eases the stress going forward. So I do spend a lot of time studying. I spend a lot of time doing homework, but because all of my most of my friends are engineers, we tend to do it together and it just becomes like a way of life. The studying and the homework. It's just the way of life. But yeah, definitely time management is key to reduce the amount of time you spend studying and to reduce the amount of all nice is that you need, but you will.

Need someone else just to let you know, but it's fine. You get used to it. Yeah I did see some questions about choosing professors. There is a website called rate my professor that you could use to choose professors, but honestly, it's all down to preference. I tend to choose my courses based on time because bash is how I work, but I feel like once you get into school and you kind of have your first semester, you kind of get a feel for what is your preference.

There's a lot of general questions I don't know that we can try to answer them all here, uhm?

Getting new students started that would suggest that if you would like to get specific answers to your questions otherwise than to use the contact information that we posted through the web and R.

All webinars will be posted on our website so there is a link for that. There will be a little bit of a delay 'cause we transcribe everything in terms of the chat and what not, but you will see them posted, so if you miss the web and where I want to go back and look at one of the department's, maybe you're deciding between two majors. They are are all posted.

I'm in a couple of questions I see from transfer students scrolling through. When can you contact our office for an appointment? Read through the email that you'll get from one of our advisors, Jane Sinclair. In regards to when you can go ahead and start scheduling for transfer students that should be out this week or into next week. So go ahead and read through that and as soon as it says, give our office a call. Go ahead, you don't have to wait for them.

In regards to financial situations, you can certainly run them by us when you have an appointment, but really we are not experts on financial aid. We do recommend talking to financial aid advisor if you have specific concerns or questions about your package or what you'll be receiving, or if you have a specific situation. We do our best to make sure you're on track in terms of degree applicable credit, so degree courses for your financial aid, but we are also going back and forth with our financial aid advisors as well.

A lot of these questions specifically on housing, meal plans and so on. Please go to the website, look up campus living. You can look up meal plans. A lot of information is listed there for you. You can look at our website. We have new student information posted. You can reach out to me. the U Bend near email has also been posted a few times. We can point you in the right direction if you're still looking for something.

And, uh, you know, need direction and Whatnot.

I can answer now his question about living, learning communities and so you do. There is a liability as a freshman on his cellphone living learning community where everyone on the floor is an engineer. And it's great because everybody on like everyone is taking the exams at the same time it was taking quizzes at the same time. It's easy to kind of find somebody to learn from annual raise on the floor. At that time, engineers as well so they can help you with your homework and such. But there's so many engineers and you be that even though I don't live learning community, I have 3.

Two other engineers in my room and several more on my floor. So even if you don't want to live in a learning community, but you will definitely still have other engineers on your fluids can help you out with your homework in your exams and all sorts of stuff like that.

What is your favorite way to take notes?

Sorry this has been a process really and again if bearings with course and it varies with professors, you just have to learn through it. So when I have a professor from someone who maybe is very fast and they give a lot of information during the lecture, I have to take notes on my computer because it's just as fast to type. But if I have, for example, interactive math course examples.

Now I have to take notes by crashing Brian downloads, but that's just my preference and that's something that you would discover when you get in class and when you get and you meet your professors and you how your professors like to teach that kind of influences how you would take your later. Cause I saw a question about bringing laptops you don't have to bring a laptop, but I just leave my laptop in my bag because you never know when you might need it, and even if I have maybe like an hour break between two courses, I could make me jump to the library and then spend some time working as well. So I generally need my laptop every day.

Are there any general tips for being a engineering student at UB?

I'm yes the first time I mentioned it before. Read your emails when you read your emails, you know what is going on at you. Be on from there. You can take part. So the key thing about renew emails is that unless you know what is going on, the second step is you need to get involved right from freshman year. Don't just lock yourself in your room and study all the time. Get involved in different things. Get involved in clubs both in engineering and outside of engineering.

Really utilize everything. Maybe has to offer because it offers you a lot me other people in your major. Just experience things. If there's an event going on in SA and soon union, go ahead and go into that. If and when you want to learn language you want to learn how to like. Do some cultural dancers get involved in as much as you can. Both an engineer and a side of engineering. Just utilize everything that you have to offer by reading your emails.
