I was able to connect OK.
Just wanna make sure Vic can get in OK.
Big if you hit the broadcast video at the top you should be OK.
Course there landscaping out front where my office is. So it was like all of a sudden crazy noisy. I was like of course.
I would say yeah, my dog is on the couch so I'm waiting for her to start barking.
Hey good morning, can you hear me?
I'm I clearly don't know how to use any of these controls, and I don't know, so I have no idea.
That's OK, well, you're in now. So all you're gonna.
I am on so I'm I'm injury jenn only because you said click on the broadcast video button. Otherwise I was stuck so that.
Yeah, so at the top you're gonna hit control slides.
Controls control, slide or yeah.
And then you should see him all populated the bottom.
Yep, go ahead and do that.
And then you'll be able to just move on whenever you need to.
Simple as that now. And so right now I'm automatically sharing my just the slide show.
And when and when the screen and when the name turns red or green, it means that I'm the one speaking.
Yes, when you're green, you're speaking a man. When it's red, it's usually just that like someone else is talking.
OK, thank you. Is Alex going to be part of this Sean or is it just me?
Yeah, it looks like Alex just logged in so as soon as he oh here it comes.
So I would suggest between the two of you just wanna view control the slides.
We can, yeah we can hear you Alex.
Oh, now it's muted. Make sure the microphone is Great, Yep.
OK, Sean is saying he can't hear me. How about everybody else?
So Alex, we were just saying that I will control the slides since I'll since I'll start off the presentation. So when we get to your part of the presentation, you might just have to say next slide whenever you want me to.
Um roll to the next slide. Does that make sense?
So it's not resume, it's Webex, right?
But but John, you're saying that what the students will see will be as a small bar box of.
The speakers right as well as, uh, a large slide box and that's all they see. They don't see there. The rest of my.
Monitor or anything like that, correct?
And they'll see the chat on the left hand side that Sean is going to monitor.
Great Oh yeah, oh that's a different. Yep, that's a different tab right now. I just have the guests. OK, yeah?
And so I'll stay in here as well. A man. I'll do the chat with Sean. And then if you guys need anything, just let me know and I'll be in here.
And is is Meredith gonna be here?
I don't. I haven't communicated with her.
She didn't plan on it, but, uh, I can reach out to or if you'd like you to be here.
No, it's uh, well, no, it's OK. I just wanted. So if you see the first slide I she she's going is she the? Is it you, Sean, that's the contact then? Or is it Meredith?
For accepted students, it would be me.
Oh, so we can we is it too late to change this slide and slate Jen?
Uhm, I can. Did you guys are you sent it to me so I can change it really quick? Are you still program coordinator? Sean? Is that your total title?
Yeah, in graduate coordinator program coordinator.
OK, I'll be right. Back off, I'll quit all switch up.
I still have a trouble figuring out who's hope so.
Meredith says she would be if this was a, uh.
A spoon recruitment event? It would be Meredith.
Yeah, once they get in the door then they're mine.
Well, she participated with me when we did it first time.
Another yeah, I saw you shirt like so right now. I mean these these are people that are accepted but are not necessarily coming.
Add get you an odd John stop.
Yeah, well, let me let me Skype her.
'cause we have it right then.
'cause if if students have quite so, here's the thing. If these are perspective students, they have questions about our program. That kind of contact narrative. Yes.
Well, yeah, I decided to go for a change just for today. Is that fine?
Vic, I realize that actually I can control slide, so when it's my turn I will just press it because it will be kind of the uneven pace in some slides. I will go through very fast because they just titled slides.
So you you can control the sides too.
So if I press CTRL slides in my bar then I'm controlling them. I just checked that.
OK, so you control your own slides. I'll do the first 9 and you can take the rest. Did you get ahold of Sean?
Did you get ahold of her?
Yeah, I I reached out to Jenn and to uh to Meredith. So Jenn is going to add me by keep Meredith and then merit. It's going to come on.
A lot of people registered. It was good.
We have a big now. I think it's 100 and some.
OK, slide should be updated. So I added both of you.
Alright, so in like 3 minutes you'll see the guest number like jump up to probably like 70 something right away, so just give it like a minute or two and then you guys can start and you should be good to go.
Thanks Janet. Slide that I have doesn't.
You might just want to refresh your browser and then hit broadcast video again and then control slides.
Alright, So what do you want me to do? So just refresh my.
And it's not gonna bounce me out of this meeting.
It might unbroadcast you, but you can then just hit broadcasts again when you get, it'll bring you right back here.
Yeah, I just did it. It took me like 15 seconds.
It worked, yeah, it worked.
So once we begin, I'll ask.
Each of you to introduce yourselves in the order that you appear on the first slide. Is that OK?
And then is Meredith here yet?
She's not if she's not here by the time oh you browser is blocking audio and video from automatically playing press connected, continue.
Yes yes, please click, click connect and then it's it's fun.
So we'll follow gens recommendation. Once it turns ten o'clock, they'll be a bunch of people that populate our guest room, but will wait a minute or so.
Yes, and they will start hearing us at ten o'clock also.

We are a member of the AAU and which is a group of large research oriented universities throughout the country that have top notch education in research. Portfolios are student to faculty ratio at UBS 14 to one.

The large undergraduate student population of just over 20,000 in close to 10,000 graduate students were fairly equally divided between men and women. We represent the lion's share of the states of the United States, and we are also represented by over 100 countries that on this campus, and we're very proud of that. We have a very large international student body and they influence our University culturing quite a bit and that diversity is one of the things that I think.

How are the job prospects for IE after graduation?
We have schools in architecture, Arts and Sciences and Medison the law, school management school and so forth, and students do have the ability to take a couple of electives outside of the Department in the school if they have interest in areas that are related to industrial engineering. For example, some of our students take courses from our School of Management.
Sean McCabe
10:06:45 AM
Hi Nastaran, course selection for new students takes place in August.
Some even take courses for my school public health and health professions so, but we are this in the school of engineering and Applied Sciences. There are nine different departments in our engineering school. We have one of the largest, most active graduate programs. We have a very active student body and doctor nicholasville talk a little bit about that in just a few minutes.

The University has three campuses. When you're on what's called the North Campus, it's in a suburb just outside of the city of Buffalo. It's one of the safest cities in the United States, and has changed that title on numerous occasions. For the 20 years that I've been in the Buffalo area to wonderful town to go to school in and.
Sean McCabe
10:07:27 AM
Hi Anirudh, there is no "year" designation - you may complete 30 credit hours in any amount of time. You may take a maximum of 18 credits per semester

Can i do internship in the first year of eng. Management?
And it's very large campus of very pretty campus, and that's where we are and I think students really enjoy the campus life there now. We also have two other campuses which are also unique and fun in their own ways. We have a campus that's in the it's called South campus because it's South of the Amherst campus. It's in the city of Buffalo. It's along our Main Street corridor. It's where the schools of architecture, public health, and a few other schools are.
Lukeshini Malikireddy
10:07:52 AM

by why is no one speaking?
Alexander Nikolaev
10:08:08 AM
Also, for anyone who does not hear us well, please e-mail me and I will speak with you personally via another medium
Located and this campus has great access to downtown Buffalo and it's between the downtown campus in the North Campus, so it also has great access to the North Campus. So many students are live outside the South Campus area in the city to get access to the amenities that the city provides and then they may take a short bus ride. Maybe it's about 5 to 10 minutes to North campus to access their courses are medical school is in the downtown campus.
Again, that's a short train ride from the South campus to downtown. The distance between the North campus in the downtown campus is a very short automobile ride of about 20 minutes.
Sean McCabe
10:08:31 AM
Hi Arjun, our graduate students receive many internships and job offers starting after their first academic year.
And many of the engineering faculty and some of the engineering students to collaborate with people from the medical campus. Because, as you might expect there, a lot of engineering applications in Madison.

I think that's a real strength of the University over 260,000 alumni. They represent all of the 50 States and 150 countries. The Department of industrial and systems engineering has a great relationship with its alumni and we do a. We've been working very hard to increase and enhance student ties with our alumni so that students have the ability to interact with alumni and find jobs and things like that. We have over 150,000 alumni in New York state which provides a lot then of local industrial opportunities for our students. the University also has a great career resources.

Uh, keep it flexible. Then you can opt for General Industrial Engineering concentration and that will allow you to.
Pick up any array, of course. Is that you like?
The in the recent years we have added another Masters program in our fold and that is the Master of engineering in engineering management.
Rudra Thaker

Master of Science in industrial engineering. So yes, you have some flexibility in choosing your courses, in particular with the choice of concentration. Also when you get closer to finishing up your degree or we begin to speak of such a thing as culminating experience, so taking courses is only part of what you will be doing here, but also in order to earn a degree.
Rushika Mirzapuri
10:18:55 AM
If I am not able to register right away, is there a chance that I do not get the courses of my choice? Are they offered on a first come first serve basis?
You have to kind of culminate your experience to show that you have become an engineer. You can think as an engineer and you're capable to be.

Uh, the smaller fraction of students they go for a thesis. It's when they begin to develop a research relationship with one of the faculty members here, and they may do well my winter project, maybe with somebody over the first year, and then the faculty member and you made together. Think that maybe a thesis would be a good option for you, which would give you obviously a stronger preparation in terms of research skills and the exact skills, the ability to.
Sean McCabe
10:19:58 AM
Hi Rushika, course availability is first come first sever depending on your academic program. that will all be explained in your orientation
And also might set you up for success in the PhD program later.
Abhinandra Singh
10:20:29 AM
Can we move from the thesis to the non-thesis program?
Sowjanya Jaligama
10:20:30 AM
Each course approx has how many students?
Be here or elsewhere and then a large fraction of our students are having the culminating experience as a project. There a student works to find an internship which can be anywhere in the country and it is our job to help you understand at which point of your study you can go for an internship. How it makes sense for how you can best benefit from it, and then you can actually even graduate.
Rahul Shenoy
10:20:42 AM

Sumeet Sahu
10:20:53 AM
@jennifer madam,Please find time to respond mails
While working on a project with somebody with some company in the country, so this is particularly lucrative because that can allow you to develop a lasting relationship with a particular company and many students get a job right there where they did their project.
Sumeet Sahu
10:21:06 AM
It is becoming very tough as days are getting closer
Sean McCabe
10:21:13 AM
Hi Abhinandra, students must be recommended to complete a thesis by a faculty member.
So each and everyone of you will be assigned in advisor here uh there will be kind of a default advise you can also treat myself as an advisor already but we have the members of the graduate affairs committee and each of us is will belongs to particular concentration human factors production systems or I'm in a war in particular doctor packet is in human factors.
Lukeshini Malikireddy
10:21:26 AM
please share email ID's
So you will have an advisor that belongs to your concentration and also overtime. As I said before, you can develop a research advisor, advisee relationship with the faculty member here.

So engineering management students do not need more than one year to complete the program as min credits are 12 per semester.
Can you imagine that uh, and again here are you seeing a gathering of our students at the latest informs conference?
Sean McCabe
10:25:30 AM
Hi Sakib, the only difference between EM online and in-person is where the courses take place
We have some very nice areas at the Department where you can do collaborative work and where you can mingle and we go where we can.
Kerry these type of events. So this is the space that actually belongs to the Department. It's very good for collaborative learning.

Could you share what are the core courses for MS IE general track
Uhm, and I think here there is some maybe game night going on or another research presentation.

Hi Lukeshini, yes most of our EM students complete the degree in 3 semesters
So as we said, we didn't intend the early part of this meeting to last too long, so now it is time for you to ask questions and I will pass the ball back to doctor packet to kind of control our conversation, and Meanwhile, if I'm not talking, I will be looking at the chat.

Finding a company that's willing to work with you in terms of some kind of internship of experience and then working with a faculty member often it's someone like Doctor Nicholaw for someone else assigned to the capstone course. You be networking and things like LinkedIn to help identify internship opportunities, but typically the responsibility for internships falls on the shoulders of the student. However, that said, we provide a lot of support so that, for example, international students who have identified an internship were able to get their work authorization paperwork in the form of CPT.

UB has a great career service, and holds job fairs
Rahul Shenoy
10:31:11 AM
Can we switch from a thesis to non thesis program?
Process very quickly and efficiently. We've also made arrangements for students to be able to do internships in a flexible way, either in a summer fall combination, for example, or a false or a fall winter session combination, for example.
Manoghna Kantharaj
10:31:16 AM
when is the last deadline to attend fall 2020 ?
And I was asked by Mr. McCabe too.
Alexander Nikolaev
10:31:36 AM
The Dept. also regularly receives internship opportunities from friendly organizations; and we share them with all grad/students
Uhm, I don't talk a little bit about what that internship experience might look like. I could give. I mean, there are plenty of examples of students who find internships lokoli. For example students have interned at M&T Bank, which is a large bank let's headquartered in Buffalo. They work for health, health care facilities such as Roswell Park, which is a Cancer Institute or Buffalo General, which is a large hospital system.
Premal Atul Jategaonkar
10:31:52 AM
What kind of jobs can i land with a OR concentration? Are opportunities good?
Alexander Nikolaev
10:32:20 AM
yes; the only thing you cannot do in terms of switching id switch from Project and then back to it
Catholic health, which is another large hospital system. They work in manufacturing for places like General Motors. We have a plant here in Buffalo and Molly which is about 20 minute ride just outside of Buffalo that provides parts for automobiles, manufacturers, parts. For automobiles we have so we have a lot of local support for student internship, so we also have students that find internships.

10:32:36 AM
How is UB going to handle fall 2020 admissions in this covid situation?
Given a job by Tesla and is now working for Tesla starting about a month ago, so very, very exciting. There are lots of opportunities that students are able to pursue in terms of internship set through our program.

10:32:52 AM
Alexander - I have heard Buffalo area doesn't have many supply chain opportunities compared to Operation Research.
Thank you Vic. UM next I have a question about, uh, there's a student that was wondering if they, uh, could complete 2 Masters while at you be. Do we have any students like that?
I I'm not aware of students that have.
Aagam Shah
10:33:30 AM
Will doing IE at UB with keeping in mind supply chain be worthy?
Um completed 2 Masters degree at the same time. Doctor Michael of of you had any experience with that in the recent past, other than I should say other than maybe students who come to us with an MBA and they're looking for a degree at the more technical degree in industrial engineering, for example. Or it come to us with from another discipline entirely. For example, a Masters in mathematics or something like that? Doctor Michael off.
Sean, can you repeat the question again? I was attending to something in the chat so I didn't hear the beginning of the question.
Lukeshini Malikireddy
10:33:56 AM
class size of engineering management?
Oh absolutely, doctor Nick lives, so we have a student who's talking about maybe completing 2 Masters degrees. Do we have any students like that currently in our Department?
Uh, I advised one student who did that so that students started here in IE and then because of the nature of the project in Operation Research, we started to need more and more computer science expertise and he eventually got the degree in computer science as well. And actually before that I graduated, the student who had a PhD from Industrial Engineering an also Master of Science from computer science.
And he is definitely making much more money than I do now.
Because it's a unique. Actually, this is a unique combination of expertise because like a typical computer scientist, they don't have the the ability to.

Can there be any potential impact on the PhD funding of this batch because of the pandemic inflicted recession?
Formulate problems I don't know, so that's what he was telling me that they like you. They also have computer science from from top schools, but somehow you know whenever they need to formulate the problem to and only then solve it, they always go for him.
So it is possible, so you will be able to probably save a little bit of money doing that. Doing two programs at the same time, but you will have to work like a dog.

Thank you doctor Nick Live. I would like to add to that a little bit. We had a few questions about course load for different students in the University guidelines are you can take no more than 18 credits as a full time student and then 12 to maintain your full time status. So think of it as between 12 and 18 credits and of course most of our courses are three credits in length. But like Doctor Nicolette was saying, these are graduate level courses and they're very intensive.

10:36:10 AM
how to complete degree in 4 semester?
So people I guess I talking about completing the degree in two semesters. You really have to think that that's quite a bit. Of course load, and that is really a lot on your demanding on sort of your resources. So think of that when you're sort of thinking how many courses I should take per semester and think about you know the level of education that you are receiving is a very high level, so taking 1818 credits to start may not be the best best way to begin your academic career.
Dhakshinaamhoorthy Chandrasekaran
10:36:16 AM
Can we expect drop in number of available internships considering the present economic situation?
Yes, I agree completely with Sean. At the same time I don't want to discourage anyone from being ambitious, ambitious myself. I I would take this many courses, but I did actually had in my own undergraduate career and so. But yes, the courses are quite demanding. The similar programs in the country.
Sometimes they can only have you take 3 courses. Now you're talking about 6.
Lukeshini Malikireddy

How can we connect with the alumni?
Sachin Manojkumar Jain
10:36:51 AM
how to complete a degree in 4 semesters? Can you give credit split up?
Uh, our PhD students are expected to take 3 three horses only so well. Of course they have to devote a significant portion of that time to research.
So it's not unthinkable to take more than four courses, and I would say that the students were on the project track.
They fairly regularly take five courses in the spring, so they take four courses in the fall and then five courses in the spring and then with three credits left, they devote all the time to project, and we're trying to find the best internship opportunity to set themselves best on the correct path.

10:38:31 AM
Could you brief us on assistantship opportunities?
Yeah, I'd be happy to do that. So we we have a large variability in terms of our class size. Class sizes can range from as few as eight to 10 students for advanced PhD courses that are taught in a very seminar like format, in which in which there is no hiding at all to courses. Elective courses that are tend to be 30 to 40.

Students and in some cases they across listed with undergraduate courses that are of mutual interest. For example, one course might be the human factors and safety course of the Six Sigma course that are offered by the Department and then we have core courses that are taught by that are taken by a large percentage of our Masters students and those can be upwards of 60 students or so. So it does vary depending on.

Hi Dhakshinaamhoorthy, masters levels students are not currently funded - typically only PhD students are funded
Your course selection. For those of you that are at the Masters level interested in the, for example the OR courses, the fund, a math, the fundamental mathematical modeling courses. Those tend to be taken by approximately 30 to 30 five students each year, so your class size will vary. It really depends on what courses interest too. We do try to accommodate all of our students or as many as we possibly can so that they are able to take the courses they need when they want to.

And that is a question which specialization has the best opportunities in Buffalo? Can a student change states for internship jobs during or after graduation? So I will start with the letter question.
Meredith Volker
10:41:45 AM
volker@buffalo.edu
Yes, you can change states, so, um, we work closely with. I double S office to make sure that you can go on internships around the nation and it's all legal. Yes, you can find an internship anywhere you can.
In terms of Specialization in Buffalo?
Perhaps Vic you can take on that. You you have more experience.
Kaustubh Sunandan Laghate
10:41:59 AM
@Sean.. Thanks
Yes, so students the best I think. Will there be some arguments among faculty about which which discipline or subdiscipline in Industrial Engineering is better suited for?
Kennedys in in Buffalo in particular. But I would suggest that.
Rahul Shenoy
10:42:40 AM
@Sean- So there are absolutely no opportunities available for masters students for TA/RA?
Our general education at the Masters level and industrial engineering. It allows the students the broadest education at the Masters level and therefore allows for the greatest number of different types of opportunities. For example, that well, that focus on things like process improvement or product improvement in Buffalo. And there is a lot of manufacturing as well as health care and service systems. For example from the financial sector that are all based in Buffalo, and so there are always opportunities to improve processes so.

At worst case scenario, by any chance if we want to extend our course duration from 1.5 yrs to 2 yrs. Is it possible? And how should I plan to do so?
Sean McCabe
10:43:10 AM
Hi Rahul, we do not currently have masters students TA/RA in the department
Lukeshini Malikireddy
10:43:11 AM
why is engineering management under engineering management?
Of students who take courses. An lean six Sigma, for example quality assurance and design of experiments and input and also potentially some of the over and operations research or human factors courses will do well in Buffalo and in other regions of the country as well.
Lukeshini Malikireddy
10:43:30 AM
sorry industrial engineering
I should have also mentioned that we also have coursework and supply chain engineering which is very popular course and that seems to be one that lots of employers are interested in. Students having some background in.

10:44:28 AM
Is there any course in ub course work which will help in hvac field?
No, I don't really see any other questions. I guess. Briefly, students have been asking about how long they can stay in the Department to finish degree, and so it's 30 credits long. We're not talking a specific time length when we say that we say 30 credits, which give or take is about 10 courses, and of course that's achieved in about 3 semesters by most of our students. Some of our thesis students are longer, but thesis students have to be romantic recommended by faculty, so that's usually where the extra semester comes from.
Abhinandra Singh
10:44:34 AM
Is switching between non-thesis to thesis possible?
Alexander Nikolaev
10:44:35 AM
Abhilash, Python would help; but we teach both Python and R in our different electives
The three semesters should be your target for finishing your degree, and that's pretty universal across any Masters level program. Here in the Department.
Is switching between non thesis to thesis possible? Absolutely the only thing which is not possible is to switch back to project.
So, but but everything else is possible, so that's why you know when you come, we recommend all to start with project and only switch to anything else when you're absolutely sure you need to switch to anything else.
Meredith Volker
10:45:06 AM
(Lukeshini): Regarding EM as part of IE 1) To distinguish the focus of the program from traditional MBAs. We focus on larger systems and systems management as IE’s therefore this program lands under ISE (like many other competing programs out there). Therefore our program blends management knowledge and engineering knowledge so that graduates are prepared to lead in technical capacities in their organizations – as opposed to leading the finance or marketing groups)
2) The program has been part of the department for decades
Lukeshini Malikireddy
10:45:08 AM
who can we contact regarding the housing?
So you start with project with the idea that you will be able to find an internship for yourself and graduate with the project and if somehow you think you don't want to do it or you cannot find a fitting position, then you eventually opt for exam.

I'll talk, I'll give it overview of the labs and maybe doctor nickel off could talk a little bit about his lab so we in the Department have.
Approximately a dozen research oriented labs, as well as some labs that are dedicated to undergraduate and graduate student learning. We have a lab that looks like a small manufacturing facility that we use for undergraduate education, as well as some graduate level elective course education. For example, in quality assurance students is sort of an experiential setting so students are able to use hands on industrial engineering methods too.

(Lukeshini) please email me if you have additional questions (Particularly about EM) volker@buffalo.edu
Come to practice some of the theory that might be taught in a classroom. There's another laboratory space inducted. Nickoloff showed it in his presentation. That's nice student collaborative space. This is where students can work on projects together as well as get together for club activities and other things that are related to the Department that are interested students. Then there's a number of research labs. We have several that focus on human factors. Issues are mostly Amor.

Somit Desai
10:47:18 AM
what was the question for this
Familiar with the activities of these labs, we have a lab dedicated to human humid automation issues associated with automobiles, and in particular looking at the effects of how increased automation and vehicles. So we start going to semi and fully autonomous vehicles, how they, how human performance can change and how the role of the operator in the vehicle changes. We have another laboratory dedicated to occupational ergonomics and bio mechanics.
Sean McCabe
10:47:36 AM
Hi Somit, we are talking about the research labs in the department
Somit Desai
10:47:44 AM
Thanks sean
It says uh, motion analysis equipment in there to study, for example, how movement and things like lifting impact the forces on the joints of the body. It's also a lab where individuals can study the physiological effects of work on things like muscle fatigue and mental fatigue. We have another human factors lab that's designed like.

what are the chances that the fall semester begins on time? if it doesn't begin on the scheduled time, are there chances of it getting online? please help.
For usability testing for product usability testing and for task testing and this, this lab has one way mirror so that while people are interacting with technologies, observations can be made on human performance. Things like operator error while using the technology can be recorded systematically in that kind of lab space. We have other human factors, lab space that the focus most. It's more of a computational.
In human performance modeling based so.
Somit Desai
10:48:36 AM
Thanks @abhilash
That lab space looks like just a small computer lab doctor. Nick Live. I don't know if you want to talk about some of the labs that are focused on operations research methods.
Sean McCabe
10:48:45 AM
Hi Soumava and Sangavi, your questions are best suited for admissions. Please reach out to them directly at gradeng@buffalo.edu
Well, I I think that in Operation Research the labs are mainly kind of working around some unique ability that the faculty guiding the web possess. So this can be the ability to simulate the movement of drones. So we have a lab for example that has like a full fledged ability to see how the drawn would fly over adding any map.
Sean McCabe

Hi, do I need to have prior knowledge about all the courses that I take?
Uhm, but I I see that there are some kind of other questions that I would need to. I would like to address him first. So one question was about the programming skills. What programming skills you need? We are help you develop programming skills. In fact, I would say that our program.
In large part is designed to help you start things from scratch. It's because we have many students coming in from different backgrounds, so we don't necessarily expect that they have had industrial engineering experience before. So in many classes, including those that require programming, we do not assume that the students know that's the way the train them to do it, or we have a dedicated dedicated course.
Shaunak Thuse
10:50:37 AM
thanks for answering. no chances of fall semeter means the entire semester will be shifted to spring without being online?
Eshwar Narayana Setty Kumar
10:50:45 AM
What is the procedure a student has to follow to move from non-thesis to thesis program?
Uh, to uh, well in programming in particular, so we have a course in Python And then a couple of research oriented electives. They use Python And then there are several course I think 3 graduate courses that heavily use R, so they train you how to use our language and then you apply it for particular analysis of data for transportation analytics for example.
Nirmayee Vilekar
10:50:51 AM
Which programming languages would prove beneficial to the course
Kaustubh Sunandan Laghate
10:51:08 AM
Addition to Rushika question - eg Six sigma, Python, Matlab.
So now I saw one big question here. Uhm, and here it is. So maybe I will challenge doctor Pickett to it. I had accepted my admit in February, but but since then a lot has changed as far as the coded virus is concerned and I I'm having some difficulties being able to arrive on time.
Chandra Mouli Polavarapu
10:51:16 AM
Hi, I heard a lot about that every industry and every fields are filling up with jobs related to coding, so how would engineering management student will get jobs in competition with other fileds of guys who doesn't want his/her life end up in coding
In particular, in India there is no visa slot available currently till October 5. Keeping this in mind, I want to do for my admission to admission to fall 20 one. Is it possible? How do we proceed?
I think that's a great question. I expect it a lot earlier in this presentation.
And so I really appreciate that question. I think it's a really important one. There is still a lot of uncertainty that surrounding about. How about the COVID-19 epidemic and also how the University will respond? And what will we be prepared to do in the fall and in the spring?
Alexander Nikolaev
10:51:53 AM
Soumava, Dr. Paquet is addressing the virus-concern question now
So for that student I I would say I would suggest this, though of course students are able to defer a year if they want to, and if they need to. But I would strongly encourage students to not necessarily.
Alexander Nikolaev
10:52:08 AM
1. Yes, you can defer by a year.
Sean McCabe
10:52:24 AM
Hi Chandra, can you clarify what you mean
Go go that route just yet, because there are different options and some of these will be shared. I think more freely as we move forward and understand how we will be able to respond to the cover 19 situation. So first of all we are planning right now to be prepared to offer classes in a seated format on campus in the fall, and that's that's what that's really what I hope is. and I think we think that there is a a.
Chandra Mouli Polavarapu
10:52:45 AM
One moment I will rephrase it
Rushika Mirzapuri

Hi, do I need to have prior knowledge about all the courses that I take? For example courses like sex sigma, supply chain etc
High likelihood that that will occur until we would like to. We hope to see many of you on campus beginning this fall, but of course we don't. We don't have complete control over the situation. the University will act accordingly. The health of the students, the staff, and the faculties. Of course, of most importance and we will follow the guidelines that will be set forth by the country and by the governor or the leader of our state.

Is there any course which will help to land on hvac field?
And then the leader of the Sony system in that of course, our own president of the University. And so we'll have to wait and see what happens there. But we are planning at this point to be fully operational in the fall now, in case we are not fully operational in the fall. I do would like to suggest that students think about maybe taking one or two of our online courses to get started with us. As I mentioned previously, we have a wonderful Library of a professionally developed online courses.
Sean McCabe
10:53:41 AM
Hi Rushika, while it is helpful to be familiar with related topics - students are not expected to know everything before they come
This might give students a Head Start in our program. Get to know a faculty member, and then in our online courses.
Alexander Nikolaev
10:53:48 AM
2. A solid option to start with us in the Fall still may be to take all online courses in Fall
Rushika Mirzapuri
10:53:57 AM
Thanks a lot Sean!
There there are virtual live sessions that can be that allow students to participate in interact with a teaching assistant and or the instructor, and it might be a very nice way for a student to be introduced to some of the courses before they even come to campus. So in the fall.

I want to know what are the kinds of jobs that a engineering management concentration student will get other than coding and how to get them
Alexander Nikolaev
10:54:39 AM
thank you, Guru; we will remain here to help
These courses are going to run nevertheless because we have online educational programs, and so whether or not we have seated courses in the fall should not impact our ability to deliver high quality courses online. Next, students could also think about deferring if needed to spring, so one might be to, if we were unable to hold courses on campus in the fall to take a couple of online courses.
Sean McCabe
10:54:48 AM
Hi Eshwar, students must be recommended to complete a thesis by an ISE faculty member
Soumava Mandal
10:54:57 AM
Thank you prof Nikolaev and prof victor for your elaborate response. I will definitely look at other options like online classes or defer to spring, before applying to defer to next fall.
And then come in the spring take seated courses and then take internship or combination of internship. Kind of course. Of course worker capstone experiences and see the coursework in the following fall semester. So there are lots of ways that students can enroll in our program.
Eshwar Narayana Setty Kumar
10:55:05 AM
thanks Sean
Alexander Nikolaev
10:55:08 AM
no-no, the focus is not on coding anywhere; working with data, yes; but more working with people
And it's our hope that we'll be seeing many of you this coming fall in our seated classes, if not in strongly, encourage you to think about our online program.
Alexander Nikolaev

So this fall getting cancelled?
And or if if deferral is, uh, is necessary, think about joining us in the spring. We will accommodate your schedule. We will make will shift our courses such that people who join us in the spring. If this. If we are unable to have seated courses in the fall, we will shift are teaching schedule so that students who joined us in the spring won't be at a loss for courses.
I hope that answers the question.
Alexander Nikolaev
10:55:44 AM
no, Fall is not getting cancelled

UB is planning for seated Fall courses

10:56:33 AM
Thank you all for the webinar we really appreciate your hard work..
So I have a question that I can answer. I see are there any restrictions on the number? Of course is we can attend online and that is a good question. So for our imperson students who are on an F1 Visa, they can take a maximum of two on line courses during their time at the University.
Vasavi Bondapalli
10:56:48 AM
Thanks Alexander
Alexander Nikolaev
10:56:49 AM
but to be flexible, we are all asked to be able to deliver Fall online if needed; I think nobody can predict how this virus thing unfolds, right?..
And what does that mean that means that you can take one in your first semester and maybe one in your second semester however you have to keep in mind that you cannot take on line courses it entirely you would have to take a seated course so the way students typically do it is they'll take one on line course in their first or second semester and then they'll take their second online course in their file semester.
Vasavi Bondapalli
10:57:05 AM
Yes yes Alexander
And for students that are interested in online courses who are not from the United States, are engineering management program has a fully online set of courses? So this means that if you were in a situation where you did not think you were going to be able to attend University in the United States but wanted a Masters degree from a from a University in the United States.
That the The Engineering Management program office that all of the required in a nice sweet of elective courses for you to take so that you can complete your degree.

But we have a different seminar webinar that we provide for students that are particularly interested in the online engineering management program. Maybe we'll be doing one of those later this semester.
